5. Memories from 2001
April 28, 2001 and a nervous Raith Rovers crowd headed along to Stark’s park in hope rather than expectation. The Kirkcaldy side had been struggling near the foot of the First Division table and a string of wretched results had meant it had been a season to forget – but it still wasn’t quite over yet. Rovers needed a win to secure their place in the division for the following season and that was by no mean a certainty against visitors Airdrie. Come the end of the 90 minutes and Rovers fans were left wondering what they had been so worried about and a little bit stunned after watching their side blow the visitors away in a 5-0 win. As poor as Airdrie were, Rovers were superb, particularly in the second half with a four goal blitz. Rovers led 1-0 at half time thanks to a Paul Tosh goal. He went on to grab himself a second but the day belonged to Jay Stein, with a brilliant hat-trick of goals, the second of which is pictured here. Photo: Johnston Press
