Stellar Quines Theatre Company is looking for new recruits for its Young Quines groups which have returned to Levenmouth for the new year.

The theatre and drama groups at Buckhaven Community Education Centre run every Tuesday evening during term time. There is a Young Quines group for 14–18 year olds at 6–8pm, plus a Younger Quines group for nine to 13 year olds at 4pm–5.30pm.

Young Quines groups are open to all young women in the local area. Young people who are non-binary, trans and exploring their gender identity are also very welcome.

The free weekly sessions led by professional theatre-makers give participants a space to tell their stories and be creative together. Throughout the year, Young Quines groups also have theatre trips, workshops from visiting artists and opportunities for participants to share their creative work.

Young Quines is the brainchild of Rachel-Jane Morrison, a theatre-maker and community arts practitioner from Levenmouth, who approached Stellar Quines about creating the project together. The initiative launched in 2021 and has been made possible thanks to funding from the Culture Collective programme, coordinated by Creative Scotland.

Rachel-Jane Morrison said: “Young Quines is a lively, bright group of committed and talented individuals who explore different theatre arts and work on building their confidence and practices each week. We are super excited to be working with text this term as we gear up towards creating a sharing of work. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please come along and say hiya!”

Following the success of Young Quines, Rachel-Jane set up a Younger Quines group for nine to 13 year olds in summer 2022 with Rachael Keiller, another local theatre-maker.

Rachael Keiller said: "I'm super excited that Younger Quines, which only started in the summer, has gone from strength to strength each week. We still have room for a few more participants so if you want to try out drama in a safe creative space then please come along. I’m so happy to be working in the community I grew up in and share my practice with the young women here. It’s been a joy and I’d love to see our tribe grow more in the new year.”

New members are welcome to join any group at any time during the year.
