Cuthbert: 'It's a great time to be at Raith Rovers'

The 33-year-old has been in great form this season, exemplified at Queen of the South on Saturday when a series of superb saves helped secure a 2-1 victory, and a place in the promotion play-offs.

Cuthbert, who has started every competitive game for Raith this season so far, admitted that it was an easy decision to extend his deal.

“It’s a great time to be involved at Raith Rovers,” he said.

“Everybody is together, there’s no bad eggs, and the gaffer has got everyone on his side believing in what he does.

“It shows in the league position.

“The gaffer spoke to me and put his plans across for next season, but he didn’t really need to go into it because he’s done all his talking with his signings.

“We’ve got near enough everyone who was involved on Saturday signed, or looking to get signed.

“Whatever happens in the play-offs it’s important to keep the squad together because then we can kick on.”

Cuthbert was a busy man at Palmerston Park on Saturday against a Queen of the South side who needed to win to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

“We’ve shown great character to come down here and win,” he said.

“We needed a draw, but the gaffer said we weren’t coming for a draw, and we’ve won the game.

“It was always going to be difficult coming down here when they’ve got to win to have any chance.

“The goalkeeper is going to have to make saves, and defenders are going to have to defend.

“We did well for the first 25 minutes, but I don’t think we played particularly well for rest of the game. We had a five minute spell when we got our second goal.

“It wasn’t our greatest performance but we’ve shown that we can dig out a result, whether it’s coming down here and winning or scoring in the last minute to get a draw at Alloa. We just refuse to be beaten.

“We’re on a great run just now and everyone is playing their part.”
